About Torrox

4 kilometres from the coast the historical village of Torrox awaits you, a typical whitewashed village with its many small pedestrian streets, the main square with its many bars and restaurants, children playing in the street, ex-patriots chatting away over a cup of coffee, the local market and its many shops etc. . .

Life goes on at a slower pace in the village, that´s why many visitors decide to stay for some time or even make it their permanent residence, a happy mix of English, German, Danish, Norwegian, Belgian, Dutch and so on...in harmony with the local inhabitants. The fact that the local people create a warm and friendly atmosphere draws many people from all over the world to come year after year to spend some quality time in a relaxed and healthy environment.

Torroxeños are proud to use the slogan ¨Mejor Clima de Europa¨, meaning ¨The best climate in Europe¨ and this is clearly not an empty phrase: Torrox enjoys a minimum of 300 days of sunshine. Geographically close to the sea, the coastal air provides a mild breeze in summer with temperatures generally not rising above the 30º and in winter daily temperatures are between 15º-20º, with minimum temperatures between 7º-15º during the night. It is this favourable climate that yearly attracts many Northern European visitors but also many Spaniards from Gránada, Córdoba, Sévilla, escaping the hot summers in their hometowns.

The advantage of Torrox is its good access to the city of Málaga or the International airport at only 46 kilometres away. The new coastal motorway that links Málaga to Nerja was opened in 1999 and offers travellers a secure and swift journey to their destination. Local and national bus services run daily and provide an easy way of travelling. Founded in the seventh century by the Moors who reigned for several hundred years over Southern Spain,

Torrox was used as a major trade route between the Mediterranean and the province of Granada. During their reign they introduced irrigation systems and the art of terraced landscaping, Torrox rapidly played an important role in providing crops for the neighbouring counties.
